Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday called for preserving our culture, and spreading the message of saint Waris Shah regarding peace, respect, tolerance, love and brotherhood especially in the youngsters that will promote unity in the country. The seminar titled Syed Waris Shah was arranged by Department of Humanities and Linguistics, University of Agriculture Faisalabad at the New senate Hall on Wednesday morning.

Whereas Dr Asmatullah Zahid from Punjab University Lahore and Government Post Graduate College Samanabad, Punjabi Department Chairman Dr Ayub Khan and other notables also spoke on the occasion The Vice Chancellor said that Punjab is blessed with the rich culture, norms and values that must be preserved and transferred to the next generation to maintain our identity across the globe. He said that every person must be capable of communicating in Punjabi and respect Punjabi poetry. He said that the University had established Wais Shah Chair to spread the message of saints with the fragrance of folk culture. He also announced establishing Waris Shah building to work on the pearl of wisdom from the message of saints. He said that Punjabi is rich language and has the vast range of literature in it.
He said the being the agro-based and rural development varsity, the UAF attaches great importance to the farmers. It is imperative for us to speak, understand and adopt Punjabi language. He said that language was one of the most powerful tools for a brighter future and doorstep of developed environment. He said that Heer Waris Shah is the best literature of Punjabi. He stressed that Punjabi language must be respected and brought up and make it essential part of life it should be promoted not extended.
Dr Asmatullah Zahid said that Heer Waris Shah was the encyclopedia of Punjabi language and culture. He showed his concern that Punjabi is in the stressed form today. The people are forgetting it and it is being vanished from environments. He added that Punjabi is about 5000 to 10000 year old, people of today have no respect and tolerance due to some essential things of life are being ignored. . He said that brotherhood is essential to keep Punjabi language alive.
Dr Ayub Khan during his address said that our new generation is forgetting about famous poets of Punjabi and the language. He said we must take steps to keep Punjabi language alive and learn about it. Dr Afzal Ahmad said that messages of saints iron out the difference and there is the need to promote such messages. Head of Department Humanities and linguistics Dr Naveed Irshad said that the session was meant for highlighting the message of Waris Shah. He said that the country was blessed with the tremendous talents. He said that the such events will help them get benefited from the message of the saints. Dr Shokat Ali read beautiful poems of Syed Waris Shah whereas Lecturer Rana Kashif also spoke on the occasion. Nazir Mohaudin recited the Holy Quran and Zunaira Saeed read Naat.
