Department of Agri. Entomology

Dr. Anjum Sohail

The Department of Entomology started working as Entomology Section in 1906 when Punjab Agri. College and Research Institute, Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) was established.
The life of Entomology in this region, now part of Pakistan, owes to an event in 1919 with appointment of an Entomologist to the Government of the Punjab.

He organized the Science of Entomology on sound footings, and it is due to concerted efforts put in by him that the Section was raised to the status of the Department and Entomology was given the status of one of the principal subjects of agriculture in 1933. He created a team of dedicated workers whose teaching and research work got acclamation beyond the territory of the sub-continent. In 1961 when the old Agri. College and Research Institute, Lyallpur, was raised to the status of West Pakistan Agriculture University, Lyallpur, now University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, the Department gained a key position. Since then the Department has produced quality manpower as well as research in different aspects of Entomology, being acclaimed through out the world.
