  Department of Fibre Technology

Mr. Nisar Ahmad Jamil

This department of Fibre Technology was established in the Faculty of Agriculture Engineering & Technology in 1964. It is the sole department in the country which offers master degree programme in Fibre Technology. The main objective of this department is to impart scientific knowledge and technological training to the students in the field of Fibre science, Textile Technology (spinning , knitting , dyeing , finishing, testing & quality control), pulp, paper and cardboard technology to meet the demand of the fast growing industry .
Research Facilities
Teaching and research in all aspects of textiles. Research studies related to the physical and mechanical properties of fibres and their structures as well as the improvement in the methodologies of fibre extraction and spinning techniques. A long series of experimental research on regular basis to study the physicochemical characteristics of various cotton strains and varieties evolved in different regions of Pakistan has been carried out. Wools from various breeds of sheep and other specialty hair fibres have also been studied on their comparative performance of textile materials. Keeping in view the increasing trend for the use of synthetic fibres In textile, the research work is being carried out to study the effect of different variables on the silver and yarn quality of different blended yarn.
During recent years textile process have gone through tremendous technical revolutions consequently various projects have been designed and undertaken to study the Innovative effects of these advanced technicalities investigation have been published in various national and international journals. The results of these publication mostly bear the importance of industrial applications.

Physicochemical tests of fibres, yarn and fabrics are carried out. The department has also a spinning laboratory which is being affectively and efficiently used far both demonstration and research purposes. The department also equipped with complete computerized fibre testing instrument (HVI 900). The final semester student
are sent to various textile mils of national repute for a period of one full semester for the purposes of practical training where they learn to handle most modern testing instrument and spinning processing machinery

Important Research Studies

Determination of endotoxin in different cotton varieties and the effect of its de-activation treatments upon fibre and yarn characteristics
· Spinning performance and comparative study of Russian, American and Pakistani cottons.
· Comparison of multiple filament polyester/cotton core yarn fabricated at the modified ring frame.
· Study of some factors effecting geometry and dimensional properties of fleece knit fabrics.
· Optimization of ring frame spinning geometry to boost up yarn quality.
· Influence of time and temperature upon the dyeing and physical properties of polyester textured filament yarn.
· Influence of salt, alkali and dye concentration on the fastness properties of reactive dyed cotton knitted fabrics.
· Effect of rotating of waste components upon open-end cotton yarn quality.
· Comparative study of different dyestuff performance on cotton fabric with special reference to their fastness properties.
· Influence of mechanical cleanliness of yarn spun at miniature versus commercial spinning plant.
· Physico-Chemical studies of naturally coloured cotton and their spinning potential.
· Producing elastic core cotton wrapped yarn on a modified ring spinning frame.
