Department of Physics

Dr. Muhammad Anwar

The department came into being in 1960 as an integrated part of the division of Basic Sciences. The need for its development was to teach courses to F.Sc. Agriculture and B.Sc. Agriculture Engineering students. Later on in 1975 Faculty of Sciences was established and postgraduate class in the department was started in 1979.  Research is mandatory for a degree from the university. To start with the research area chosen was harnessing of Solar energy for practical purposes and a number of solar gadgets were developed, namely, Concentrators, Cookers, Dehydrators, Heaters, De-salinators, etc. The results were quite encouraging. The research in this field is still going on. In the department M.Phil degree was initiated in 1997. Up till now 324 M.Sc. and o8 M.Phil students have earned their degrees.

The students who earned their degrees from the department are absorbed in the prestigious research institutions and departments of the country, namely, education department, Atomic Energy Commission, Qadeer Khan Research Laborites, Center for Nuclear Sciences, N.D.C., Cancer Hospital, Education Core of the Armed Forces. Moreover a significant number of students are also absorbed in various Federal and Provincial government departments. A reasonable number purse for higher education within the country and abroad.

In addition to its own courses a certain number of courses are also offered by the department to M.Sc.(C.S.), M.Sc. (Fiber Technology). B.Sc. (Agri.Engg). & B.Sc. (Home Economics).

The number of postgraduate students who earned and at present pursuing their degrees are as follows
