Department of Veterinary Parasitology

Dr. Zafar Iqbal Randhawa (Chairman)

Research

The department is involved in research activities like documentation of Ethnoveterinary practices, evaluation of medicinal plants for their anti-parasitic activity, diagnosis of development of resistance against anti-parasitic drugs, development of vaccine for control of avian coccidiosis, and prevalence of parasitic diseases. Research on medicinal plants by this department has revealed a large number of indigenous plants with remarkable anthelmintic and anti-tick activity. Our scientists have also diagnosed the development of resistance in sheep nematodes against commonly used anthelmentics in different areas of Pakistan.

Research Projects in progress

  1. Development and molecular characterization of gametocyte vaccine(s) (local isolate) against avian coccidiosis” funded by Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad

  2. Documentation and Evaluation of Some Traditionally Used Ethnobotanicals for their Anthelmintics Activity, funded by Higher Education Commission

  3. Documentation of Indigenous Anti-Parasitic Practices and Scientific Evaluation of Some Ethno-Botanicals for their Anthelmintic Activity funded by University of Agriculture Faisalabad under Promotion of Research

  4. Epidemiology of Parasitic Fauna of Domestic Animals of Tehsil Toba Tek Singh funded by Endowment Fund, University of Agriculture Faisalabad

  5. Screening of Some Indigenous Plants for Anthelmentic Activity with Particular Reference to their Condensed Tannin Content funded by University of Agriculture Faisalabad under Promotion of Research
