General Information's /Instructions

 

DURATION AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE COURSE/SEMESTER

 

 

1.         (i)         The duration of the course for the Degree of Master in full residence shall not be less than four semesters and more than six semesters for whole-time students.

 

(ii)         The medium of instruction and examination shall be English.

 

2.         (i)         There will be 2 semesters in each year, Winter and Spring, of 19 weeks each. The commencement of semesters shall be regulated by the Academic Council.

 

                        Explanation: Out of 19 weeks, 16 weeks shall be actual teaching time, the rest may be utilized for admission, enrolment, conduct of examinations, preparation, declaration of results, etc.

 

            (ii)         There will also be a summer session of 8 to 10 weeks each year as part of an academic year which shall be optional. Students, who desire to take up deficiency courses as approved in their course work programmes, failed courses and the courses in which they are allowed to improve "D/C" grade under the rules, may enroll during this session. It shall not count towards residential requirements.

 

3.         The subjects of study for the M.A. Economics, M.A. Sociology and M.Sc. Population Sciences are given in schedule I. This schedule may be amended from time to time. The candidate must, in addition to completing his/her approved Course Work, present an acceptable research report.

 

4.         A student admitted to the course shall be required to undertake the following course work:

 

            (a)        He/she shall take not less than 50 credits of course work excluding the credits required for rectifying course deficiency, if any, in at least four semesters. These credits will include 3 to 5 credits of research.

 

            (b)        All the courses given in Schedule-I will be compulsory for Masters Degrees in Economics, Sociology and Population Sciences. Division of Courses into major and minor courses will be done at a later stage consequent to the approval of the restructural plan of the Faculty of Agri. Economics' and Rural Sociology, which is presently underway.
