Admission
to the Course
1. A candidate
seeking admission to the course for the degree of M.Sc.(CS), Master of
Business and Information Technology (MBIT), Master of Business
Administration (Professional or executive) and Master of Commerce must have
passed,
(i) For MBA (Regular,
MBIT, M.Com and M.Sc.(CS) the Bachelor’s Degree Examination or an equivalent
examination in 2nd Division (under annual system) or with CGPA of 2.50/4.00
(under semester system) from a recognized institution, in a field of study
relating to the subject he desires to take up.
For MBA Executive: The
professional degree holder or Master degree holder with at least second
division (annual system) or with CGPA of 2.5/4.00 will be eligible. The
bachelor degree holder with two years executive/professional experience
after graduation will be eligible as well.
For MS(CS), must have
passed the BS(CS) 4 years programme with at least second division or with
CGPA 2.5/4 or M.Sc. (CS) with at least second division or with CGPA of
2.5/4.
(ii) Produce, at time
of the first enrolment, a certificate from the University Resident Medical
Officer to the effect that he is free from any communicable disease or
mental or physical disability which is likely to stand in the way of his/her
pursuing the chosen field of study.
2. If the schedule of
courses pursued by candidate for his/her Bachelor’s degree does not provide
adequate background, he/she may be required to rectify the deficiency by
taking additional course(s) during the first semester.
3. If a candidate
fails to qualify any deficiency course(s) in the first semester, he/she must
qualify in the second semester or the following summer session. He/She will
cease to be on the rolls of the University if he/she could not qualify the
deficiency courses during the above mentioned period.
4. Candidates may be
admitted at the beginning of the winter semester. If a candidate fails to
enroll, his admission shall stand cancelled.
5. (i) The admission
to the course may be made by the Advanced Studies and Research Board on the
recommendations of the Selection Committees to be constituted by the Vice
Chancellor,
(ii) The Selection
Committees shall consider the applications for admission to different
courses and formulate their recommendations for placing before the Advanced
Studies and Research Board.
(iii) The Advanced
Studies and Research Board may refuse admission of a student to the course
without assigning any reason.
Explanation. All
those students who are awarded minor penalty of fine of Rs. 1000/- and above
twice on account of their misconduct during the course of their
undergraduate studies will be debarred for postgraduate admission for a
period of two years. After the lapse of two years after completion of their
undergraduate courses, their cases will be considered for admission to
master degree programme on the recommendations from the Students Affairs
Committee.
The students who
receive major penalties during their B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses will not be
granted admission to M.Sc. and Ph.D., courses respectively. However, they
will be eligible for admission to M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses after a lapse of
three years, on the recommendations of the Students Affairs Committee.
6. A candidate
admitted to the course shall, for so long as he/she has not submitted
his/her thesis/project or internship report, enroll himself/herself for each
semester provided that he/she may discontinue his/her studies on account of
sickness duly certified by the University Medical Officer or due to
circumstances beyond his/her control, before appearing in the final
examination, with the permission of the Vice Chancellor obtained through the
Director, Advanced Studies on the recommendation of the Dean/
Director/Principal. Provided further that a candidate shall not ordinarily
be allowed to discontinue studies during first semester.
Explanation:
Candidates so permitted to discontinue will be allowed to resume their
studies by the Dean/Director/Principal and will be notified by the Director
Advanced Studies.
7. An application for
enrolment on the prescribed form (GS/10), accompanied by the prescribed
fees, shall be presented on the day(s) notified for enrolment provided that
the Director Advanced Studies may, in special circumstances and on payment
of a late fee of Rs. 400 permit a student to enrolment within ten days after
the commencement of the semester.
Provided further that
the Vice Chancellor may allow enrollment of a student after the expiry of
ten days of the commencement of the semester under special circumstances and
individual cases to be recorded in writing with double late fee, till such
time as it does not conflict with the prescribed requirement of 75%
attendance in lectures and practicals of each subject.
Explanation:
Enrollment will only be considered completed when GS/10 form is deposited
with the Director Advanced Studies. Merely depositing of fee will not serve
the purpose.
8. If a student fails
to enroll in any semester without permission of the competent authority, he
shall cease to be on the rolls of the University and in case he desires
readmission, he shall have to apply for the same.
Explanation: The
advanced Studies and Research Board may readmit such a candidate or refuse
admission if the reasons advanced are not convincing.
9. When a candidate
has been enrolled for his first semester, the Advanced Studies and Research
Board shall, on the recommendation of the Dean/Director/Principal made in
consultation with the Chairman of the Department/Incharge of Section
concerned, constitute for the M.Sc.(CS)/MS(CS) candidate a Supervisory
Committee which shall normally consist of two teachers from the major field
of study and one from the minor field of study, provided that if an
outstanding specialist in a major or minor field of study, is available
outside the University, he may be appointed as a member of the Supervisory
Committee in place of a teacher or as an additional member. One of the
teacher members from the major field of study will be designated as Chairman
of the Supervisory Committee. For MBA, MBIT/M.Com candidates, the
Supervisory Committee will comprise of all the three teachers from their
department; one of them will be designated as the Chairman of the
Supervisory Committee.
10. (a) A student who is enrolled for a course shall
not be allowed, to add a new course or substitute a course for another after
the expiry of twenty days from the commencement of the semester, but he may
be permitted, on the recommendation of his major supervisor/Chairman of the
Department and the teachers concerned, to drop a course within thirty days.
In case a student gives up a course without such permission or intimation,
he shall be deemed to have failed in that course.
(b) The students may
be allowed to drop such courses within 30 days of the last date for
enrolment, for which they enrolled in the first semester after taking
admission, before the appointment of their Supervisory Committees, which are
not included in their approved course work program by the Supervisory
Committee. This concession will be valid for courses enrolled in the first
semester and for those students, who submit their course work program during
first semester.
11. When a course for
which a student is enrolled cannot be held according to the program
announced, he/she may take up an alternate course, but this must be done not
later than fifteen days after the date of enrolment.
12. The admission of
the candidate to the course shall be provisional in the first instance and
shall be confirmed only when he has:
(i)
shown satisfactory progress in
course work and thesis research
(ii)
rectified the course
deficiencies, if any
