Examinations
a): Tests and Examinations
18. i) There shall be
two examinations for each course during each semester. These examinations
shall be termed mid-semester and final. In addition to these examinations,
the teacher shall give home assignments, term papers quizzes, etc. The
determination of the form of these examinations will be left to the teacher
who will be solely responsible for the conduct of examination as well as
evaluation in his course. The grade given in the course by the teacher shall
be final.
(ii) Only those
students who have attended not less than 75 percent of the lectures and
practicals separately in each course, shall be eligible for admission to
such examinations.
(iii) A teacher shall
report to the Dean/Director/Principal concerned through the Chairman of the
department concerned the names of students who are absent from the lectures/practicals
continuously for seven days to enable him strike off such students.
Explanation:
The Dean/Director/Principal may readmit such a candidate or refuse admission
if the reasons advanced are not convincing.
19. the final
examination for semester shall be held on a date, time and place to be
notified by the teacher in advance.
20. To pass a
deficiency course, a student shall be required to obtain at least grade C.
21. The scripts of
each examination shall be given to the student concerned by the teacher,
taken back immediately and then forwarded to the Controller of Examinations
within five days, who shall preserve the scripts for a year.
22. i) The mid
semester examination shall be held during 9th week of the semester which
shall carry 30 percent of the total allocated allocation shall be held by
the teacher concerned who shall determine the form of the examination.
ii a) for MBA, MBA
(Exec), MBIT/M.Com., the quizzes, special hoe assignments and/or term papers
shall carry 20 percent of the total marks allocated which shall be uniformly
split over the whole semester. The final examination to be held at the end
of the semester shall carry 20 percent of the total marks allocated.
(ii b) for M.Sc (CS)
and MS (CS), the quizzes, special home assignments and/or term papers shall
carry 10 percent of the total marks allocated which shall be uniformly split
over the whole semester. The final examination to be held at the end of the
semester shall carry 60 percent of the total marks allocated.
iii) For the purpose
of evaluation, one credit will carry 20 marks, e.g., a five credits course
will carry 100 marks. These marks will be divided in accordance with the
credits assigned to theory and practical for each course.
23. The following
weightage shall be given to the examinations, home assignments, term papers
etc.

24. In order to
qualify in the examination of the semester, a student must obtain at least
20 percent marks separately in (i) Sessional Work/Mid Examination(s) as well
as (ii) Final Examination. In other words, for commutative passing, the
essential condition will be the attainment of at least 20 percent marks in
each part. It will also be essential to pass separately in the practical
examination.
25. The teacher shall
send the final award list for the course to the controller of Examinations,
and a copy each to the Dean of the Faculty, Chairman of the Department
concerned and the Director Advanced Studies, normally within five days after
the end of the semester.
26. One receipt of the
award lists, the Controller of Examinations shall prepare a consolidated
award sheet and send it to the Director Advanced Studies and
Dean/Director/Principal and the Chairman of the Department concerned.
27. A student, who has
taken the final examination of and approved course at the end of the
semester, shall not be permitted to delete the course.
28. A student who
fails to make up the deficiency in his grade point average, in the number of
chances permitted, shall cease to be on the rolls.
b) Grade Point
Average
29. Grade point will
be as follows: A for 4.0, B for 3.0 to 3.9, C for 2.0 to 2.9, D for 1.0 to
1.9 and F for failure (that is zero).

Explanation:
a) At the end of the first semester, student must obtain a minimum grade
point average (GPA) of 1.5 to be promoted to the second semester.
b) In case a student
is able to obtain GPA of 1.75 or more but less than 2.00, he will be
promoted to the second semester on probation.
c) At the end of the
second semester, a student must obtain a minimum cumulative grade point
average (CGPA) of 1.75 and must also pass at least 50 percent of the courses
taken by him in order to be promoted to the third semester. If any of the
preceding two conditions is not fulfilled by a student, he shall case to be
on to the roll.

d) A student will be
required to repeat those courses of the previous semesters in which he had
failed, at the first available opportunity, provided that his maximum work
load, including the courses being repeated by him will not exceed the normal
work load.
e) At the end of the
third and subsequent semester, the CGPA of a student would not be less than
2.00 otherwise he shall cease to be on the rolls.
f) A student, who
cannot maintain the GPA/CGPA requirements in accordance with regulation and
and ceases to be on the rolls, may seek fresh admission alongwith other
candidates, on merit, but only once.
g) MS (CS) candidate
should obtain GPA/CGPA of 2.75 for enrolment to the next semester. In case a
student is able to obtain GPA/CGPA of 2.25 or more but less than 2.75, he
will be allowed to enroll in the next semester, but only once, and he will
be given a warning to improve his GPA/CGPA and if he fails to obtain 2.75 in
the next semester, his admission shall stand cancelled).
h) An MS (CS) student,
who obtains CGPA of 2.25 or more but less than 2.75 upon the completion of
entire approved course work, may be allowed to repeat once the courses of
the previous semesters in which he had obtained the lowest grades in order
to improve the CGPA so as to obtain the minimum of 2.75 failing which he
shall cease to be on the rolls.
30. An MBA/M.Com/M.Sc.
(CS) or MBIT candidate who obtains CGPA of 2.00 but less than 2.50 upon the
completion of entire approved course work may be allowed to repeat once the
course(s) for the previous semesters in which he had obtained the lowest
grades, in order to improve the CGPA so s to obtain the minimum of 2.50,
failing which he shall cease to be on the rolls.
C): Thesis Examination
31. A student shall be
entitled to submit thesis for examination after he has passed all the final
examinations in the approved courses provided he has also fulfilled the
residential requirements.
32. The thesis shall
be prepared and presented in the manner laid down in the instructions
approved by the Advanced Studies and Research Board from time to time. It
shall be accompanied by the research paper and an abstract embodying results
for the thesis.
33. The unbound thesis
shall be referred to the examiner(s) for evaluation duly certified by the
Supervisory Committee that the contents and form of the thesis are
satisfactory for submission.
34. The thesis shall
be evaluated by a Board of Examiners comprising members for the Supervisory
committee and one external examiner, appointed by the Vice Chancellor from
the persons proposed by the Advanced Studies and Research Board, out of the
penal of names recommended by the Board of Studies.
At least three members
of the Board of Examiners of whom one must be an external examiner shall,
for the purpose of evaluating the thesis, hold a viva voce examinations and
such other tests as they may consider necessary. The external examiner shall
be given reasonable time to go through the contents of the thesis
critically. The viva voce examination would be conducted at least after one
week of the receipt of thesis by external examiner.
35. The thesis shall
be evaluated by the Board of Examiners according to the following numerical
and latter grades:
a) For M.Sc. (CS)
candidates there shall be 200 marks corresponding to 10 credit hours
allocated for thesis and these may be divided as under:
i) 25% marks will be
reserved for the evaluation for technical knowledge of the topic as well as
general knowledge about the subject of the degree program.
ii) 50% marks will be
reserved for the subject matter of the thesis, such as the originality and
justification of research, quality of data, interpretation of data,
conclusions drawn and achievements of the objectives of the research.
iii) 25% marks will be
reserved for the technical aspects of presentation such as consistency,
illustrations, diagrams, references, English grammer, vocabulary and quality
of typing.
b) The marks so
awarded will be converted into latter grades by the prescribed formula which
shall be A, B, C, D, or F as the case may be. Average grades on the basis of
course work and thesis will then be worked out to calculate the final CGPA.
36. If a candidate
fails in the thesis examination, he may enroll again and submit a revised
thesis on payment of the prescribed examination fee but he shall not be
entitled to resubmit his thesis before the expiry of six months after the
date of declaration of the result of the last thesis examination. He can
avail this chance only once.
37. The unbound thesis
of MS (CS) candidate shall be referred to the external examiner for
evaluation after he has passed all the final examinations in the approved
courses and has also fulfilled the residential requirements, provided
further that the candidate has defended his thesis research at University
level through a seminar. This presentation shall be evaluated by his
supervisory committee and one nominee of the Dean and if found acceptable,
the final submission may be allowed.
Explanation:
This seminar shall be in addition to the one, which is delivered for the
completion of the course work.
38. The thesis for MS
(CS) candidate shall be evaluated by a Board of Examiners comprising members
of the supervisory committee and one external examiner, appointed by the
Vice Chancellor from the persons proposed by the Advanced Studies and
Research Board out of the standing panel of names of examiners along with
their specialization recommended by Board of Studies. This standing panel
shall consist of not less than ten and more than twenty names drawn from all
over the country. At least three members of the Board of Examiners of whom
one must be an external examiner for the purpose of evaluating the thesis,
hold a viva voce examination and such other tests as they may consider
necessary. The evaluation will be made according to the following numerical
as well as latter grades:
a) There shall be 300
marks corresponding to 15 credit hours allocated for thesis and these may be
divided as under:
(i) 30 percent marks
will be reserved for the evaluation of technical presentation of the thesis,
such as the volume, format, illustrations, diagrams, references etc. and
(ii) 70 percent marks
will be reserved for the subject matter of the thesis and the knowledge
gained by the candidate throughout the course of his studies as provided
under Regulations.
b) The marks so
awarded will be converted into latter grades by the prescribed formula which
shall be A, B, C or F, as the case may be. Average grade on the basis of
course work and thesis will then be worked out to calculate the final CGPA.
39. The subject
approved for thesis research shall remain valid only for 8 semesters from
the date of admission of the candidate to the course. The Advanced Studies
and Research Board may, however, relax this condition for special reasons to
be recorded.
40. A student admitted
to the course in partial residence shall undertake research work in a
laboratory or institute approved by the Syndicate on the recommendations of
the Academic Council and Advanced Studies and Research Board.
41. In case of
disagreement between the Supervisory Committee and the External Examiner
regarding the acceptance of the thesis is shall be referred to another
external examiner whose decision shall be final.
42. If the thesis,
submitted by a candidate for final evaluation, is proved to be
copied/plagiarized at the time of viva-voce examination, it will be liable
to be rejected on the report of Board of Examiners. The Controller of
Examinations will declare the candidate fail in thesis examination. The
admission of such a candidate shall be cancelled and he shall not be
readmitted under any circumstances.
43. If the thesis of a
candidate is proved to be plagiarized after its evaluation and declaration
of result previous result of the candidate will be cancelled and he will be
declared to have failed in the thesis examination. Such a candidate shall
not be readmitted under any circumstances.
E. Examination Fee
44. University examination fee shall
be charged at the time of registration for each semester.
45. A candidate who
passes all the examinations with the prescribed CGPA shall be awarded the
Degree of Master of Computer Science/Master of Business
Administration/Master of Commerce/Master of Business and Information
Technology/MS (CS).
