 Duration & Requirements of the course/semester

 

i) The duration of the course for the Degree programme, after rectification of the deficiency, for the degrees of Master of Computer Science M.Sc.(CS)/Master of Business Administration/Master of Commerce/MS(CS) in full residence shall be not less than four semesters and more than six semesters for whole time students and not less than six semesters for part time students. For Master of Business and Information Technology (MBIT), in full residence shall be not less than five semesters and more than seven semesters for whole time students and not less than seven semesters for part time students.

 

ii) The medium of instruction and examination shall be English.

 

2.(i) There will be 2 semesters in each year, winter and spring, of 19 weeks each. The commencement of semesters shall be regulated by the Academic Council.

            Explanation: Out of 19 weeks, 16 weeks shall be actual teaching time, the rest may be utilized for admission, enrolment, conduct of examinations, preparation, declaration of results etc.

(ii) There will also be a summer session of 8 to 10 weeks each year as part of an academic year which shall be optional. Students, who desire to take up deficiency courses as approved in their course work programmes, failed courses and courses in which they are allowed to improve D or C grade under the rules, may enroll during this session. It shall not count towards residential requirements.

 

3. (i) The MBA (Regular/M.Com) candidate must complete an internship of eight weeks duration and write a comprehensive report on it. The internship will be treated as a course with 3(0-6) credits and can be enrolled in any session/ semester after successful completion of first two semesters. The enrolment of internship for MBA (Executive) candidate will be optional.

(ii) M.Sc. (CS) candidate will have the option to write a research thesis or complete a project but for MS(CS) thesis will be compulsory. He will have to present an acceptable thesis on the basis of his approved programme of research if he opts to take up thesis in his programme of studies. In case of second option he will complete a project and write a comprehensive report on it. This will be evaluated like other courses.

4.  A student admitted to the course shall be required to undertake the following course work:

 

(a) He/she shall take not less than 60 credit hours for MBA(Exe.)/MBA(Reg.)/M.Com. not less than 60 credit hours for M.Sc.(CS; and not less than 63 credit hours for MBIT excluding the credits required for rectifying course deficiency; if any, in at least four semesters.(Syndicate 12.3.05)

The thesis will be optional for M.Sc.(CS) and will carry 10 credits which will be included in 60 credits for M.Sc.(CS).

 

(b)  A student admitted to MS(CS) shall take not less than 41 credits of course work in atleast 4 semesters. These credits will include 15 credits of research/thesis.

 

(c)  MBA/M.Com programmes will have core courses, optional as well as  courses for various specializations.

 

For M.Sc. (CS) nearly two-third of the credits for the course shall be in the major field of study, and one third in the minor fields of study on the basis of the minimum requirements; the minor fields may be one or two but shall not exceed three. If more credits are taken under major and minor courses, then the ratio of two third and one third shall not apply in such cases.

 

For MBIT nearly half of the credits for the course shall be from Management/ Finance/ Marketing/ Accounting and half from the IT fields of study; on the basis of the minimum requirements. If more credits are taken, then this ratio will not apply in such cases.

 

*Explanation: The ratio of one third and two third shall not apply to credits taken over and above the minimum requirements of 60 credits. The number of minimum credits under major and minor courses for M.Sc. (CS) with theses will be 34 and 16 or 33 and 17 respectively. The number of minimum credits under major and minor courses for M.Sc.(CS) without theses will be 40 and 20 respectively.(ASRB dated 18.5.05)
