In this regard, goat distribution ceremony was arranged at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. The initiatives are being taken under the project “empowerment of lady farmers and poverty alleviation through beetal goats”. As many as 60 rural women are given beetal goats, five goats for each, in two years under the project.

He was talking to participants of annual function of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences.   He said that animals are also facing the threat of the viral diseases, resulting in deterioration of milk and meat quality. The most important of them is to reduce animal mortality and to provide them with the best healthcare. Annual Function of the TTS Campus

Training Workshop for Balocahistan Farmers

Underground water in Balochistan is decreasing every year by 10 feet because of heavy pumping, raising the question mark on future agriculture and survival, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He was addressing concluding session of four-day training workshop held for Balocahistan Farmers arranged by Water Management Research Centre, UAF. He said that 5,000-year Karez irrigation system in Balochistan is also losing its effectively due to heavy pumping. The people ingeniously created the Karez to draw the underground water to irrigate the farmland.  He said every year, the floods devastate agriculture and human life in the country. It is prerequisite to build the dams in order to conserve the water that will help the country to overcome floods.  Talking abut Balochisan, he was of the view that Mirani dam will irrigate the 30,000 acre of the land. Initially it is irrigating 8,000 acre. He stressed the need to conserve the water as the declining water reservoirs are posing a serious threat to life. He said at the time of independence, per acre water availability was around 5000 cubic metre which has declined to 975 cubic metre, putting the country in the red zone as per water availability index.

Research proposal competition arranged by Office of Research,  Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC)

Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST) Chairperson Dr Mudassor Asrar demanded the government allocate at least one percent of Gross Domestic Product for research and development (R&D) activities  whereas currently, only 0.3 percent of GDP is being spent on R&D. She was addressing the participants of Research proposal competition arranged by Office of Research,  Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The event was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.
Quoting the example of Japan, the PCST Chairperson said that Japan is spending 5 percent of GDP on R&D activities.   Talking about research budget in Pakistan, she said the research budget had been slashed 100 percent. It was Rs 2 billion two-year ago which is now Rs one billion.

Lack of availability of quality and certified seed is the major constraints to increase agricultural productivity. The public and private sector joint efforts can bring the country out of crisis of certified seed shortage. The University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Institute of Business Administration Sukkar have agreed to launch a Joint Degree Programme four-year BBA in order to strengthen inter-provincial harmony. It was agreed at the meeting held between the UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and IBA Sukkar Director Entrepreneurship Ali Akbar Rizvi. It was agreed that that the students will spend half academic periods at each institution. The total 132 credit hour degree programme has been designed for 100 students that will be exchanged after spending two years at their home institution.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad scientists have discovered two new bat species from Pakistan. It is almost after 50 years that new mammal species has been recorded from the country. Dr. Muhammad Mahmood-ul-Hassan, Associate Professor from the Department of Zoology and Fisheries, UAF with his PhD student Muhammad Salim designed a study to investigate bat fauna of Malakand Division. Distinction in 8th grade results

University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s Laboratory Girls High Secondary School has bagged the 100 percent results in 8th class examination held under the Punjab Examination Commission with 89 percent students got the A+ and A grade. As many as 114 students of the School appeared in middle standards examination. Out of which, as many as 60 students got the A+ grade, 42 students obtained A grade, 11 students stood in B grade while only 1 student with Grade C. Aiman Sattar stood first with 462 out of 500 marks. Sabila Noor and Fatima Khalid stood second with 460 marks and Hassama Khalid and Mahnoor Imran got the third position with 458 position.

UAF Exhibition Centre 

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has set up first-ever exhibition centre in the city in order to facilitate the researchers and industries to showcase their products. The Centre is established with the funding from Endowment Fund Secretariat (EFS) on the pattern of Lahore Exhibition Centre. It will start functioning from the next month. Situated in the heart of the city of textile, Faisalabad, the centre is comprised of 14 halls and provides 37,000 square feet covered area for the commercialization of products and providing knowledge to the industry and relative stakeholders. The centre has started working on commercial basis. In this regard, EFS-UAF has signed an agreement with China Pakistan Marketing Company for staging Pakistan Agri Expo 2014 here on May 28.

Pakistan is running through a difficult time in term of water scarcity as the per capita water availability has touched to threshold level, said Parliamentary Secretary on Finance and Economic Affairs Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and UAF North American Alumni Association, Canada President Dr Tahir ink a MoU to strengthen ties

The UAF North American Alumni Association, Canada and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday inked the Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen ties in academia and research. The MoU was duly inked by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Association President Dr Tahir. Talking to the Vice Chancellor, Dr Tahir said that the association is providing nine scholarships to the talented students in order to pursue their studies. He said that as many as Rs 7.55 million had been given to the UAF Endowment for the cause of education and research activities. He said each scholarship amount is Rs 48,000 per academic year.

The Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST) has ranked the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) as top university of Pakistan in the Degree Awarding Institutions for the Year 2014. The University received a highest score of 779.17 among all universities. Whereas, Islamia University of Bahawalpur and University of the Punjab, Lahore stood second and third with score 477.98 and 273.03 respectively.
