Research Intersts: The camel has special physiological characteristics that enable it to convert poor quality desert pasture into meat, milk and work under extreme conditions of dehydration. However, the camel is a domestic animal whose full agricultural potential has not been achieved because of its low reproductive efficiency. Most of the causes of poor reproductive efficiency are ill defined but generally seem to originate from poor management, locally fluctuating microclimate or some unexplained intrinsic factors. Therefore improvements in camel production require better knowledge of the control of reproduction at molecular and cellular levels.
